Giant Puriri moth I saw at the Gas station!!! These moths are the largest moths in NewZealand, with a wing span of 15cm! You’re lucky to see one, as they only live for 2 days during the months of October-December. During this time they don’t even eat as they have no mouth! The male moth lets off a scent to attract the female, which she uses her large fluttery antennae to detect him! She then lays around 2,000 eggs on the forest floor, then sadly passes away, to let her babies enjoy the legacy of life she has left to them.
